I wish I knew how to use all the features on my camera. I love the blurred background pictures and vivid colours others in Project 365 have been taking. This is my attempt.

post-processing / colour boost actions can do a lot for the latter...
Do you use your camera in manual mode at all? To get the shallow depth-of-field (the blur) you need to have a low aperture setting.
As for colour, there's something to be said for a Photoshop bump... ;) I shoot in RAW which tends to be a little on the flat side, so a little post-processing goes a long way.
I think you did a great job on this.
ditto to what the first 2 commenters said. Low aperture for the blur and PS for the colour boost. We have the same animals, I do a head count on them once a week and get a bit annoyed when any are missing. hah
